AP French--le 23 janvier au 27 janvier 2012

The AP ladies will be combining culture with grammar this week.  They will be reading about Valery Giscard d'Estaing, a former French President.  They will be adding something about him to their Presidential time line.  They will also be re-learning about demonstrative pronouns and adjectives and doing review exercises from French 3 Years, pages 394-403, ex. A, C, E, G, M, and N.  They will finalize their research on 2 Francophone Central African cities which will be due for presentation on 2/1.

Honors French 4--le 23 au 27 janvier 2012

French 4 students will be working on the study of French newspapers and TV stations.  They will be creating a French TV news broadcast--one student will be the anchor, one will be the weatherman, and one will be the sports anchor.  This will be presented on Wednesday, 2/1.

French 3--le 23 au 27 janvier 2012

French 3 students continue learning vocabulary from Unit 3.  This week's work is place through tragedie, troupe through rire (blue day) and White day must learn the latter plus album through feu .  This week they will finish with instruction dealing with comparative and superlative structures.  They will have worked on exercises in their workbooks, page 39, ex. 5 and 6, and in their textbooks page 121, ex. 2 and page 135, ex. 2.  They willbe reading page 122 in the textbook about the French's ideas about pastimes. French 2--le 23 au 27 janvier 2012

French 2 students will be doing the following this week.  They will be learning how to make commands using reflexive verbs.  A reflexive verb has the word "se" before it, such as se laver.  When you make a command with a reflexive you need to consider the reflexive.  And so the 3 command forms look like this for se laver:  lave-toi, lavez-vous, lavons-nous.  The negative is:  Ne te lave pas, ne vous lavez pas, and ne nous lavons pas.  Workbook exercises which correspond to this instruction are found on page 94, ex. 16 (#5, 6, and 8) and exercise 17 (all).  Students will also create health and safety posters using the command mood of the verbs.  They will present their posters next class.  We will also be talking about Obamacare and how it is like or unlike the French health system.  We will be reading pages 54 and 55.  On Friday White day classes will be having a major vocabulary assessment from Units 2 and 8.  They will also begin working on a health skit in teams of 4:  1 student who represents a doctor, one a patient, one a nurse, and one a pharmacist.

AP French Language--le 17 au 20 janvier

The AP French ladies will be learning a lot about French presidents this week.  They will also be doing research on Brazzaville or Kinshasa--2 Central African Cities on the Congo River.  They will presenting their research on the 2 cities on February 1st.  Do you know who these 2 French Presidents are?

Honors French 4--le 17 au 20 janvier

Honors French 4 is continuing to learn vocabulary dealing with the French Media.  They should be studying words under the headings "Court Metrage" and "Culture."  They will be having a quick grammar assessment on Friday dealing with the passe compose and the imperfect tenses.  They are also going to start creating a French news broadcast--one student will be the anchor person, one the weather man, and the other the sports broadcaster.  For a writing exercise they will need to choose one of the questions from page 107 in their text (ex. 2) and answer it using no less than 5 French sentences.

Honors French 3--le 17 au 20 janvier

This week the Honors French 3 class will be working on comparatives and superlatives.  They will also be learning new vocabulary and are responsible for numbers 1-32 to learn by next week.  They worked in the text on page 141, ex. 3, #5-10.  Thursday and Friday the students will be watching Despicable Me just like the French 2 students.  French 3 students will need to identify 20 French words from the movie.

French 2--le 17 janvier au 20 janvier

This week the French 2 students will be doing the following:  Tuesday and Wednesday they will be reviewing the reflexive verbs.  They are also learning about the French Health System and how it is like or different from the American system.  On Thursday and Friday they will be watching Despicable Me in English with French substitles.  They need to find 15 French words which they recognize and for which they can give me the English.  If they find 15 I will add 5 points to their lowest summative assessment.

AP French Language--le 10 au 13 janvier.

The AP ladies will be concentrating on cultural issues this week.  They will be reading about World Wars 1 and 2, and they will start some interesting research on French Central Africa.  One student will research Brazzaville and the other, Kinshasa.  They will also be introduced to 4 French African "Createurs."  From the textbook they will do reading comprehension questions, pages 122 and 126 and Revision questions on page 129.  Most of their time will be spent on the internet researching the 2 Congo River Cities.  Their presentations will be due on Tuesday 1/18.

Honors French 4--le 10 au 13 janvier.

The 3 Honors French 4 students will review vocabulary and grammatical structures from before the break.  They will be introduced to new vocabulary, review the imperfect tense, and then learn the difference between the passe compose and the imperfect.  Support exercises will be taken from textbook, page 81, ex. 1-3 and page 104, ex. 1 and 2.  They will also be asked to expand on ex. 3 from page 81, by writing 5 sentences about his opinion.
