Midterm Schedule for my French classes

Tuesday, Dec. 14th--regular school day--French 2, 3rd block white day during 3rd block

Wednesday, Dec. 15th--regular school day--French 2, 3rd block blue day during 3rd block.

Thursday, Dec. 16th--early dismissal--Honors French 3, first block; French 2 white day, 2nd block

Friday, Dec. 17th--early dismissal--AP French Language and Honors French 4, first block; French 2 blue day, 2nd block.

Anyone who misses an exam will receive a zero.  The exam cannot be made up unless prior arrangements are made with the school.  Call the office for more information.

le 30 novembre--Honors French 3

This was re-teaching day.  Students performed poorly on the grammar section of their latest round of assessments, so we spent most of the period relearning some important structural elements.  They will be retested on the first structure--the passe compose--on Monday, Dec. 6th.  Students also reviewed how to conjugate reflexive verbs--je me, tu te, il/elle/on se,  nous nous,  vous vous, and ils/elles se.  To better their reading and writing skills we are starting to read from the book Lisons Comme Ca. For the next few classes they will be reading short chapters from this book and answering reading comprehension questions completely in French. 

le 29 et 30 novembre--French 2

French 2 students began with a warm-up for which they were asked to copy 12 French words for body parts dealing with the head.  We then had a re-teaching session on the verbs savoir and connaitre.  They started learning a new verb:  vouloir--which means to want. Je veux, tu veux, Il veut, nous voulons, vous voulez, ils veulent.  We went over the test they took before Thanksgiving.  We began learning new vocabulary dealing with health.  They are to learn the new words on their Unit 2 Vocabulary from "la santé" to "une allergie." They will have a make-up for the test on savoir and connaitre.  At the end of the period they created their own heads which they labelled in French.

 

le 29 novembre--AP and Honors French 4

The AP student worked on her warm-up dealing with a verb synopsis and then read and answered questions about François the first and the Renaissance.  She needs to turn in her questions from the Revision chapter.

 

The French 4 students began their new unit dealing with French West Africa, and humans' relationship to others.  They had a warm-up questioning them about what Mali, Senegal, the Ivory Coast, Morocco, and Chad had in common.  They then had an anticipation guide about francophone countries in west Africa--the number of such countries, the languages spoken, the religions practiced, and what European countries colonized them.  We went over new vocabulary.  They need to know all the vocabulary under the rubric Mouvements from their Unit of study.  They also took notes about the partitive--how to say "some" or "any" in French--du, de la, de l', des, de, d'.  We talked about breaking up into groups to study one West African francophone country, and the next 2 classes this week will be in the Media Center for them to do research  on the country they chose.  Finally the students colored and labelled maps of francophone countries in Africa.

Next French Club

The next French club will be on Monday, Dec. 6th from 3:30-4:30.  We will be celebrating the Feast of St. Nicholas who is the patron saint of children.  Think chocolate and citrus, everyone!  Yes, Rodrigo, there will be clementines!!!!!!!!!!!

Nov. 18th--"After Thanksgiving Break"

This is tentatively what the classes will be studying after the Thanksgiving Break:

AP will continue with the history of the wonderful country of France.

Honors French 4 will be studying about Francophone Africa and underprivileged peoples, racism, prejudice, and globalization.

Honors French 3 will be studying teenage life.

French 2 classes will be studying health issues and problems, accidents, and hospital visits

DON'T FORGET THAT FRENCH CLUB MEETS THURSDAY, 11/18 FROM 4:15- 6:30 FOR DINNER AND A MOVIE.  BRING A SNACK TO SHARE AND A BEVERAGE FOR YOURSELF.  NEXT MEETING AFTER THIS WILL BE MONDAY, DEC. 6TH TO CELEBRATE ST. NICHOLAS' DAY.
