All my classes this week are preparing for their midterms.  A reminder of the midterm schedule follows:  tomorrow:  French 2, 3rd block, white exam; Wednesday, French 2, 3rd block, blue exam; Thursday, Honors French 3, first block, and French 2, 2nd block, white day exams; and Friday, Honors French 4, AP French Language, first block, and French 2, 2nd block, blue days exams.  I wish you all a very wonderful holiday break.

le 3 et 6 décembre--French 2

Students began class by copying their last section of body parts--the lower torso.  We then took a make-up on the savoir-connaître section of their last major test.  After that they did TPR with the body parts.  Then they reviewed vouloir and pouvoir.  New vocabulary was introduced after that.  They need to make sure that they know all vocabulary from their Chapter 2 list (from santé to avoir la gorge qui gratte).  Today's class celebrated St. Nicholas (the blue classes will celebrate tomorrow).  The students finished the block by working in their groups making life-size posters of body parts and labelling them in French.  Body parts test will be Thursday, 12/9 for blue classes and Friday, 12/10 for white classes.  White classes will receive study guides on Friday, 12/10, and Blue classes will receive theirs on Thursday, 12/9.

le 6 décembre--Honors French 3

Students worked on a warm-up dealing with the major topic of the day--the subjunctive.  They studied for a make-up assessment on the past tense and then proceeded to take the test.  They learned new vocabulary (from le paysage to provençale) from their list.  They celebrated the feast of St. Nicholas.  They will be taking another make-up test on the sujunctive on Friday.  They will also be receiving their study guide for the midterm on Friday.  Their midterm is Thursday, Dec. 14th from 8:25-10AM.

le 6 décembre---Bonne fête de St. Nicolas

Today is the day in France when French children put out their shoes in hopes of getting citrus and candy from St. Nicholas on the morning of December 6th.  They don't want to receive sticks from Pere Fouettard because that means they have been bad that year.  All classes today and tomorrow are celebrating The Feast of St. Nicholas for 15 minutes in class.

le 2 décembre--Honors French 3

Honors French 3 had another re-teaching day with the passé composé.  Today's repeat lesson had to do with Vandertramp verbs and reflexive verbs which use être as the auxiliary verb in the passé composé.They also had to read "Julie a froid" in their Lisons Comme Ca reading book.  They have a make-up test on the passé composé on Monday, Dec. 6th.

le premier et le 2 décembre--French 2

Students continued learning the names in French for body parts-head and upper torso.  They also began their life-size body parts project by tracing the smaller students in the room onto a piece of 6-foot colored paper.  Next class they will be labelling the entire body.  We also learned new vocabulary:  from mouchoir to éternuer.  We also learned a new verb--pouvoir-  to be able, "can"--je peux, tu peux, il/elle/on peut, nous pouvons, vous pouvez, ils/elles peuvent.

 

le premier décembre--AP and Honors French 4

AP:  The AP student worked on a warm-up dealing with a verb synopsis, and then she delved into the history of Henry the 4th of France.

Honors French 4--the students worked on the same warm-up as the AP student, learned new vocabulary, and then went to the Media Center to begin their research projects on West African francophone countries.  These projects will be due on Wednesday, January 12th.  Here is an image of some homes in Cameroon:
