January 31st--French 2

Today's blue day classes worked again on vocabulary.  Students were given a rubric for a project--writing a 3-person skit involving a doctor, a nurse, and a patient.  Groups were chosen by the teacher.  Blue day classes scripts are due on Friday, Feb. 18th, the day before vacation.  Students are to study the vocabulary from "appeler police secours to un chirugien."

 

le 31 janvier--Honors French 4

Today students worked on object pronouns and vocabulary.  They also answered some higher order thought questions.  They have a question to answer in French for Wednesday's class, dealing with globalization.  In a diverse, multicultural world who should be required to adapt, the immigrants or the inhabitants?

PARENTS, DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR STUDENT'S HOMEWORK IS?

It has just come to the attention of this teacher that many of my students' homework assignments are missing in action.  They don't make it to my desk.  It does not matter if it is written exercises or projects; the homework is not being done or if it is, it is not being turned in.  I cannot give a student a grade unless I have evidence that the work has been done.  Remind your son or daughter that the most effective way to get a grade is to do the work (and then hand it in)!  Thank you very much!

Next French Club Meeting and Other Important Information!

The next French club meeting is on Monday, January 31st.  Students will continue creating their posters for our croissant/hot chocolate sale. 

Attention:  Students in French 3 and 4:  Applications for French National Honor Society will be ready by Friday, Feb. 4th.  If you have an A or B in French and have a 2.75 in your other classes, you are invited to apply.  Applications will be due by Friday, 2/18.

 

le 28 janvier--Honors French 3

Class began with its usual warm-up:  this time dealing with the matching of vocabulary.  They then continued with their learnings about French teenage culture by reading page 63 in their textbooks and completing exercise B on that page.  There are 9 students in the class who did not turn in their Imperfect projects on Wednesday, and they risk having points deducted for lateness.  No project will be accepted after next Tuesday, Feb. 1st.  The last 45 minutes of the block the class watched a French movie with English subtitles.

Students began as they normally do with a warm-up once again dealing with vocabulary on health.  We reviewed old vocabulary and they were assigned new vocabulary:  appeler police secours to un chirugien.  2nd block worked on verbs and graphic organizers.  3rd block watched a French video with English subtitles.  Everyone's SMOOSH books were due today.  There will be a 5 point deduction for every school date that the assignment is late.

le 26 et 27 janvier--French 2

The classes began with a warm-up dealing once more with vocabulary from Unit 2 about health and medecine. They worked with a lot of vocabulary, specifically on a worksheet.  They have vocabulary to learn for the next class. The students read from pages 33-35 in their textbooks which also deals with vocabulary.  They looked at exercise 6 on page 37 from their textbook.   After that we shifted gears and worked with verbs--ouvrir, sortir, souffrir, and dormit.  They created graphic organizers to help them learn the verbs.  Their SMOOSH books are due for the next class--1/28 for French 2 white days and 1/31 for French 2 blue days.

le 26 janvier--Honors French 3

Today is project day.  Students' projects about what they did when they were young are due today.  We  began, as usual, with our daily warm-up.  After that we talked about vocabulary.  They will be having a Unit 2 Vocabulary Test next Tuesday, Feb. 1st.  The students then participated in a round-robin project chat during which they introduced their projects to a partner.  Volunteers then presented their projects to the entire class. After the presentations, the students did book work, reading more about the life of French teenagers.

le 24 janvier--French 2

The class began with their usual warm-up.  This time they had to finish 4 sentences with an appropriate phrase.  After that they had some more vocabulary practice on a worksheet.  The warm-up and the worksheet helped them prepare for today's vocabulary text.  They then had 10 minutes to study for the test which they then took.  After the test they started to learn 2 new verbs: ouvrir--to open and sortir--to leave.  The finished the class working on their SMOOSH books which are due on Friday.

le 24 janvier--Honors French 3

Students began class with a warm-up which dealt with matching vocabulary words they were to learn.  We then went over new vocabulary words, did a round-robin exercise with the 11 negative expressions they should know, and made predictions about how French teenagers are similar or dissimilar to American teenagers.  They then broke up into 5 groups to read 5 paragraphs about French teenagers.  In the group they did exercise A on page 62, a true or false exercise.  At the end of class we checked our predictions with what we read in class.  They need to study their vocabulary words for homework.  They also have their projects due on Friday.
