le 21 janvier--French 2 blue days

Today's blue day classes began with a warm-up dealing with Unit 2 vocabulary (la santé et la médécine).  They then worked on a worsheet also dealing with vocabulary.  After this they were given 10 minutes to study for a vocabulary test.  They took the test and then worked on reviewing 4 irregular verbs:  savoir, connaître, pouvoir, and savoir.  They then switched gears and began working on their SMOOSH books which are due Monday, January 31st.  They brainstormed ideas for daily activities. le 21 janvier--AP and Honors French 4

Both classes began with a warmk-up dealing with the object pronouns y and en.  They had instruction on the order of object pronouns when there is more than 1 in a sentence. By the way, there are 4-5 archived pages/powerpoints on object pronouns in the table of contents of this blog if you wish to check out another way of instruction.  The AP student then worked again on verbs with require an à or a de.  She also worked in the textbook doing exercises which dealt with obejct pronouns.  The Honors French 4 class put on presentations on Cameroun, Burkina Faso, and the Ivory Coast which were well done and very interesting.  They then began watching a teaching video for their chapter entitled Samb et le commisaire.  They will complete the video on Tuesday.  Bon weekend à tout le monde.

Back to School Week after Winter Snowcation! January 18 through January 21

 

All classes have had to review what they probably forgot due to the unexpected winter blast last week.  AP and Honors French 4 have been working on object pronouns, with the French 4 students continuing their learning of vocabulary for Unit 5, and the AP student working on verbs which take special prepositions (à or de).  The Honors French 4 students will be presenting their projects tomorrow. Honors French 3 students have been studying negative expressions and vocabulary for easy understanding of Chapter 2.  They also have a project due dealing with the imperfect tense (Quand j'étais petit/petite) which is due next Wednesday, January 26th. The French 2 students are continuing their study of reflexive verbs and vocabulary dealing with health issues.  They have a project (a SMOOSH book) which deals with the students' daily activities due either January 28th (white class) or January 31st (blue class).  They also have a Unit 2 vocabulary test either tomorrow for the blue classes or Monday for the white classes.

Next French club meeting

The next French club meeting will be Thursday, January 13th after school from 4:15-5:15.  We will be making posters for our upcoming hot chocolate/croissant/nutella sales to benefit the Darius Weems foundation to combat Duchenne Muscular Distrophy.

le 7 janvier--le français 3

Honors French 3 began the class with a warm-up, once again dealing with the imperfect tense.  They had to conjugate 2 reflexive verbs in the imperfect.  We then learned the difference using a Venn diagram between the imperfect and the passé composé.  The students continued to learn new vocabulary--this time they had from déranger to c'est pas mon truc.  After the short vocabulary lesson the students were reminded about the 4 ways to form questions in French, specifically the inversion form.  After this they looked at the difference between using questions words with regular word order and using question words with inversion.  They began to learn 5 negative expressions, and finally, they were given time to work on their project on "Quand j'étais petit(e)," due on Tuesday, January 18th (after the MLK holiday).  Bon weekend à tout le monde.

le 6 janvier--AP French Language and Honors French 4

The 2 groups basically met as one class today.  They are re-learning direct and indirect object pronouns.  Their warm-up dealt with direct object pronouns.  They had instruction on indirect object pronouns.  They then used the partner white-boards to do 10 sentences using indirect object pronouns and 7 sentences using direct object pronouns.  Each partner had a set to do and then each student checked his partner's work.  Then the AP student did some work on her own on direct and indirect object pronouns.  The Honors French 4 group continued working with the partitive, orally and with some written work.  They also were assigned about 15 vocabulary words to learn:  most of which were cognates.  They will be presenting their projects on Monday, January 11th.

le 6/7 janvier--le français 2

French 2 classes continued their learning of reflexive verbs--grammatically and in context.  Many of them are learning the reflexives well.  Their new words for today were:  se raser, se baigner, se doucher, se coucher, se réveiller, se brosser, se peigner, and se dépêcher.  They already learned se lever, se laver, se couper, se casser, se blesser, and se faire mal.  6 of the students volunteered to act out some of the vocabulary words for the rest of the students to guess.  10 of the students were chosen to write captions for illustrations dealing with illnesses.  The new vocabulary words which they have to learn for the next class are de la pénicilline, de l'aspirine, avaler, à fond, and qu'est-ce qu'il a?  This means that they have learned all the vocabulary for the first half of this unit on health and they will probably have a test either Wednesday or Thursday of next week on the vocabulary.  They will continue working with the reflexives and will begin a project dealing with their daily activities.  French 2 is daily getting a little bit more difficult, and students need to study each evening to prepare for the next class.

le 5 janvier--technical difficulties--Honors French 3

Hey, everyone, I tried to post this yesterday, and it would not post.  Anyway this is what the class did yesterday.  They started with a warm-up which dealt with conjugating avoir and etre in the imperfect.  We also reviewed the formation of the imperfect and how to deal with verbs which end in GER and CER.  Those 2 sets of verbs have a a little twist when it comes to the imperfect.  The students also reviewed how to conjugate reflexive verbs in the present tense, went over old vocabulary, and started learning new vocabulary.  We also went over the rubrics for their project which will be due on Tuesday, January 18th.  The Title of the project is "Quand j'étais petit(e)....."  When I was little.  They have to write 10 sentences about what they did (i.e., in the imperfect tense) when they were little.  They have to illustrate the 10 sentences.
