le 16 et le 17 février--French 2

Students worked on imperatives and imperatives using reflexive verbs.  Blue Day French 2 students had to review once again the reflexive verbs because they scored so horribly on the post assessment.   White Day French 2 students presented their skits.  Blue day students will present theirs on Friday, 2/18.  Both days worked in their textbooks, page 45-47 and in workbooks, page 19.

Le 16 février--AP and Honors French 4

AP worked on historical events and figures--especially France's role in both World Wars.  She then re-instructed herself on reflexive pronouns.

The Honors French 4 students did research on La Negritude

and then continued in the language lab. working on their posters and projects.  Posters are due on Friday 2/18 and research projects are due on Thursday, March 3rd.

February 16th, 2011--CONGRATULATIONS/FELICITATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations to the members of the French Club who worked the last 3 days selling croissants with Nutella or jelly and hot chocolate to benefit the Duchenne's Muscular Distrophy Fund.  A total of a whopping $110 was earned and will be sent to the Fund.  Thank you all so much, my mustached-bereted friends.  Also thanks to Ms. Verser and Ms. Rana.

le 14 février et le 15 février--French 2

French 2's warm-up was a review for their post-assessment on the reflexive verbs.  Then they had 10 minutes to study for the post-assessment, took the assessment, and then settled in for instruction.  They had instruction on the third part of the Imperative Mood--the Let's construction--or the nous construction of the command form.  After this they looked in their textbooks, read some French, and did one exercise orally on vocabulary.  For the nex 20 minutes they worked on their skit groups.  For the last 5 minutes of class they worked on a summarizer which also dealt with vocabulary.

le 14 février--AP and Honors French 4

AP began with a warm-up dealing with the identification of 6 infinitive phrases.  She had study time to prepare for her post-assessment on verbs which take the preopositions à or de.  She took the post-assessment.  She then had history to read about France's role in the first world war.  After that she was to go on the computer at www.freerice.com to practice French vocabulary.  The Honors French 4 students also began with a warm-up dealing with la mondalisation.  After that they had study time to prepare for their post-assessment.  They took the assessment; 8 out of the 9 students received a 100 on the assessment, and one student scored an 80.  After that they worked on the computers doing their research or creating an interactive poster. Their posters are due on Friday, 2/18, and their research is due on Thursday, March 3, 2011.

le 9 et 10 février--French 2

French 2 students began with a warm-up whose goal was to complete blanks with the correct present tense form of 5 reflexive verbs.  They then were given 15 minutes to study for their Unit 8 Vocabulary test.  They took the test.  White day classes performed much much better than blue day classes; many blue day students said they did not study at all!  Their scores reflected this work ethic.  After the test the teacher instructed the student on the 2nd part of their lesson on commands:  how to form a "tu" command--a command for someone you know very well, an informal command.  Last class they learned how to form a "vous" command for someone they don't know well (formal command), or more than one person.  Next class they will be learning how to say "let's do something,' otherwise known as the "nous" command.  After this instruction the students reviewed reflexives once again, since they are having their post-assessment on the reflexives either on Monday, 2/14 or Tuesday, 3/15.  Finally, they had about 20 minutes to work on their skits dealing with a trip to the doctor's office.

le 10 février--AP and Honors French 4

The AP student had a warm-up dealing with disjunctive pronouns, worked on the use of infinitives in French from her AP French Language Book,  and researched "Waiting for Godot" by Samuel Beckett.  She has a post-assessment on verbs which take an à or a de on Monday during class.

The Honors French 4 students worked in the language lab, checking out www.examen.ns to see what French West African students use in their studies, www.freerice.com to practice French vocabulary, and 2 other sites for aides for presenting interactive posters and museum box presentations.  The last 2 corresponded well with their present classwork, because they are creating posters with themes such as racism, globalization, child abuse, etc., and they are researching famous French West African celebrities such as Alpha Blondy.  They will have a post-assessment on several of their vocabulary words from Unit 5 dealing with social issues on Monday 2/14 during class.

le 8 février--Honors French 4 and AP French Language

The AP student began with a warm-up dealing with possessive adjectives.  She then worked on present participles and disjunctive pronouns.  After this she did computer research on the Theater of the Absurd and Samuel Beckett.  She will have her post-assessment on verbs which take à or de on Monday, 2/14.

The Honors French 4 students began with a warm-up which was a preview of what they are going to learn in the near future.  They were given 12 minutes to study for their vocabulary test, and then they took the test.  After this, along with the AP student, we reviewed what to do with object pronouns in tenses which are composed of two words such as the passé composé.  After this short remediation the students were given a choice of topics to research about either the Paris-Dakar road rally or certain French West-African celebrities.  They also started creating posters about world values, and they have a question to answer about the future of education. They will have their post-assessment on 15 Unit 5 vocabulary words on Monday, 2/14.

le 8 février--French 2 blue Days

Class began with a paragraph to translate into English.  They then had instruction on how to form formal commands in French.  After that they reviewed their reflexive verbs--meanings and conjugations--to prepare for next Monday's post-assessment.  They watched a video--English with French subtitles, and they practiced for Thursday's vocabulary test.

Feb. 7th--French 2

Students began with the class by attempting to translate the following in to English: Bonjour, Docteur Weber.  Je suis malade, mais je ne sais pas ce qui ne va pas.  Je veux me sentir mieux.  Aidez-moi, s'il vous plaît!  They then went over their vocabulary because they will be having a Unit 8 Vocabulary test on Wednesday.  They also had instruction on how to form commands for one person they don't know well or for more than one person.  They practiced that using their textbooks.  Next they reviewed the reflexive verbs because they are having a post-assessment on them next Tuesday.  Finally the class ended with students working in their skit groups.  Preliminary scripts are due to me on Wednesday.
