le 24 octobre au 28 octobre--AP French Language

The AP ladies are taking a Unit 8 Test on 10/25.  They will have new vocabulary:  un poste through soliciter un emploi.  They will start to learn some important French idioms and how to form present participles.  They will begin to review the subjunctive.  On 10/27 they will present their "Indian Ocean creators."  They will do page 332, ex. 1 in their textbook and in the French 3 years textbook, chapter 13, ex. B, read pages 143 and 145-146, Exercise I page 146-147; Chapter 14, read page 150 and 151 (sec. a and b); page 153-154, sec. c;  page 160-161; do ex. B page 162.

le 24 au 28 octobre--Honors French 4

Students are working on learning the reflexive verbs.  They will be introduced to reciprocal verbs on 10/25.  They will be taking a quiz on the reflexives 10/25.  They need to learn vocabulary from "les travaux through peu/très peuplé"  plus the previous vocabulary assignment son which they will be quizzed on 10/27. They will have a writing prompt concerning their daily activities using reflexive verbs (at least 7/10).  They are working on their City project:  the creation of a cardboard city with 5 buildings, 5 people, and 5 other city-related words.

Unit 1 Tests: 10/24 and 10/25.  Students will begin a new Unit dealing with French teenagers.  They will need to learn new vocabulary from "l'argent de poche through s'entendre bien."  They will review how to form questions in French and the many ways to make a sentence negative (besides ne/n'....pas) which they learned in French 1.

This week the French 2 class is ending one Unit and beginning its next Unit (combined Units 2 and 8) on health.  They are taking their Unit 1 exam either 10/24 or 10/25.  They are starting to learn the French names for the body parts.  White class will have all the body part words assigned by Friday, and Blue class will have the same on Monday, 10/31. They had to draw a head and label its parts.  They are also in the process of learning new vocabulary having to do with health.  On their new vocabulary sheets they are to learn "santé though allergie and mouchoir to eternuer"  They will be doing some TPR--total physical response activities via exercises and songs.  They will begin a Performance Task:  creating a "Big Body." They will also learn how to say "they have a pain somewhere."  That is using the verb avoir plus the word mal plus the body part such as:  J'ai mal à la tête means I have a headache.  They will be also learning other avoir idioms, and they will begin learning a new verb: vouloir, which means to want.  Finally, they will be introduced to "Hallowe'en in France," and whether it really is a holiday in France.

French Club October 24

French Club will meet again either Monday morning (October 24th) or afternoon in room 101. This will be the last day to pay dues to get a T-shirt. T-shirt design and color will be chosen. Please bring a canned good with you that day to help stock the school's food pantry. Pay it forward!

le 17 au 21 octobre--AP French Language

The AP French Language students will continue with learning 3 more tenses: the past perfect, the past conditional, and the past future. They will have exercises from French 3 Years to do: pages 97-104, ex., a,b,d, and g to practice with these tenses. They had to choose 2 creators from the francophone islands in the Indian ocean to research. They also have a writing prompt to answer under the topic of how they like to amuse themselves when they have 2 free hours, 2 free days, or 2 free weeks? They are going to have a major Test on Tuesday of next week on the unit they have studying--Unit 6. They will receive a study guide, and a list of essay questions for the exam that they can prepare in advance. They will also have more work to do in French 3 Years on their new tenses: page 104, Ex. J and L. After the exam, they will begin a new Unit on the French and Work. The first section of vocabulary they need to study is located under the section: "le Monde du travail"--from une augmentation du salaire to un grand magasin. I will be instructing them on si clauses and sequence of tenses.

 

 

 

le 17 au 21 octobre--Honors French 4

The Honors French 4 gentlemen will hopefully be presenting their franchophonie projects tomorrow.  We will go over the exams they just took.  Instruction will involve both reflexive and reciprocal verbs.  They are also to start learning some new vocabulary from new Unit 2. They will be working on a new performance task:  the creation of a French city.  This will be due next Tuesday.

 

le 17 au 21 octobre--Honors French 3

French 3 students will be reviewing the subjunctive mood once again this week.  They will create sentences about what one should or should not do at the pool, at the movies, in the library, in the classroom, and in a car.  They will be given some time to put the finishing touches on their presentations of favorite French vacation spots.  They will give their presentations on Thursday and Friday of this week. They will also be given essay questions to consider answering for next week's Major Unit 1 Assessments.  There will be review exercises to help them prepare for the assessments, and they will be asked to teach a grammar section or vocabulary via group work.  Assessments will be next week:  Monday or Tuesday, depending on whether the class is on a white day  or a blue day. 

 

 

 

 

l1 17 octobre au 21 octobre 2011--French 2

For the French 2 classes this week, the students will be doing media research in the library Monday and Tuesday on their Impressionist Painters project which will be presented on Thursday and Friday. On Wednesday the blue day class will have a substitute because I will be working at an on-site inservice. On Thursday and Friday the students will also have the chance to retake an assessment on the verbs savoir--sais, sais, sait, savons, savez, savent, and connaître--connais, connais, connaît, connaissons, connaissez, connaissent. They have to know the conjugations and their particular meanings as both mean "to know." They will be having a major Unit 1 assessment next week, so there will also be review activities and a study guide to prepare them for their assessments. Part of the assessment will include describing a picture, using 3 viable sentences in FRENCH.

This is going to be an interesting week for my classes.  First of all I will not be in school  on Tuesday or Thursday, so there will be a substitute in those classes.  Tuesday students will have work packets to accomplish, and Thursday, depending on how much work they accomplished Tuesday, will have a movie to watch.  They will watch it in English with French subtitltes.  They are to write down every French word that they recognize.  Otherwise, most of our classes this week will be meeting in the Media Center for research purposes.  The French 3 white classes will be concluding their research on favorite French vacation spots on Monday and Wednesday.  On Friday, they will meet back in the classroom where they will continue their introduction to the subjunctive mood.  A couple of interactive activities will help them learn the subjunctive--i.e., pomme chaude, et applaudissements.  Their research will be presented next week, on October 18.  The French 2 classes will begin their media center research time on Wednesday.  They are researching French impressionist painters--either Cezanne, Renoir, Monet, or Degas.  They will meet in the Media Center Wednesday and Friday.  Monday's classes took their 9 week assessments, took a quiz on savoir and connaitre, and attempted reading comprehension of 2 cultural posters.  Those who did not score well on the verb quiz will have a re-take on Wednesday.
