This week the French 2 students will be doing the following: They will be reviewing the conjugations of aller (to go)--vais, vas, va, allons, allez, vont and savoir (to know a fact)---sais, sais, sait, savons, savez, savent, plus what these verbs mean when they are immediately following by an infinitive verbs--a word which ends in ER, IR, or RE. Aller plus an infinitive means "GOING TO DO SOMETHING," and savoi plus an infinitive means "KNOWING HOW TO DO SOMETHING." ex. Je vais faire les devoirs--I am going to do the homework. Elle sait lire le français--She knows how to read French. The students were also introduced to the distinction between the verb savoir--to know a fact, to know how to do something and connaître--to know a person, to be acquainted with. They finished exercises on page 10 in their books (ex. 12 and 13) on savoir and connaitre today or tomorrow. I am going to give them a pop quiz for their next class (Wednesday or Thursday) to see if they studied the 2 verbs. I have also divided each class into research groups to study one of 4 French Impressionist painters--Dégas, Renoir, Monet, and Cézanne. They (either Tuesday or Wednesday) have to read pages 20 and 21 in their books and to do exercises A and B on page 21. Both groups will be making a small poster advertising a play, a TV, or a movie. Later on this week the Blue class will begin a review of question words. They will also do workbook pages 8 and 9, ex. A and C and textbook page 18, reading and exercises. White Day will do the same next Monday.
This is one of the many beautiful paintings by Claude Monet.
