Algebra 3- week of May 2, 2011- May 6, 2011

Assessments this week:Monday, 2nd block can finish unit 6B test and 3rd block can finish on Tuesday ( I am out of 3rd block on Monday to proctoring an AP test)

Final Exams for seniors : 2nd is Monday, 05/23, 3rd is Thursday 05/19. ( If you are an underclassman, see me for your final exam date)

Monday

Today, the class can work on unit 6B test and they may use the review sheet as a resource. Also, the class will create a poster of the self selected problem ( one sine graph and one cosine graph). IN addition, the class will work on a graphing trig functions packet and they may receive extra test points. I am out of 3rd block due to AP Proctoring.

Tuesday

 We start the systems of equations ( 9.1)  and inequalities ( 9.4)  unit, my favorite unit of the course. Today, we look at solving a system of equations by graphing and solving a system of inequalities.

Wednesday

 I hope to have the unit 6B tests graded and you will get your test back and there is a test correction session in class. We starat  with an inequality activity and then notes are taken on (9.1) Substitution and ( 9.2) Elimination. Most students prefer elimination and it is a must for the notes on Thursday.

Thursday

We start off class with solving a system of equations using all 3 methods. ( graphing, substitution and elimination). Then, we solve a system of 3 equations, 3 variables, where this method is an extension of the elimination method.

Friday

Today, it is quiz day, study the three methods of solving a system of equations, including the one system, 3 method sheet.  After the quiz, more notes are given on the 3 equation, 3 variable problems

Math 2, week of 04/25-04/29/2011

Assessments: unit assessment on exponential functions is Wednesday and Thursday this week.

EOCT starts Monday, May 9th and runs 05/09-05/12/2011. Blue day testing is 05/09 and 05/11 and white day testing is 05/10 and 05/12. This test is 15% of the grade.

Tutoring this week: Monday ( after 4:15, I have a parent/teacher conference) and Friday ( until 4:45 pm only). I am not available on Tuesday afternoon as I will be attending the Shuler Awards, where Pebblebrook has some nominations.

Monday/ Tuesday

The lesson covers exponential functions, how to graph them, translations, solving exponential equations and annual compounded interest. The minitest for this lesson is next class.

Wednesday and Thursday

The class begins with a review of exponential functions and then the minitest. Class will work on EOCT review sheet number 5 while the class finishes the test. We start the last section of unit 5, arithmetic sequences and series.

Friday/ Monday

The class checks EOCT 5 and 6 and takes notes on 4.9 Geometric Sequence. We also look at a combination of algebraic and geometric sequences.

Assessments this week: Quiz on Tuesday and test on Friday

Final Exams:  3rd block will be Thursday, May 19th  and  2nd block will be Monday, May 23rd.

Today, we  graph a combination of cosine and sine graphs, to ensure the students know the difference of the start points. We also go over vertical shifts of the sine and cosine graphs.Review for the quiz is done with a cubing activity and  notecards of comparision.

It is quiz day today ( with cosine, sine graphs, comparing graphs and a bonus of a vertical shift.

The horizontal shift of the trig graph is introduced to the class. The lessson tends to be very intense on the algebra,  with the adding of fractions of unlike denominators.

Math 2- week of 04/18/2011-04/22/2011

Upcoming Assessments: Inverse assessment is Thursday and Friday this week at the beginning of class. Then, we will have an exponential growth and decay functions test early the following week.

EOCT is May 9-12th, we are starting to prepare for this test, it is 15% of the grade. I encourage your student to prepare for this test, using the study guides from class given in warm up each day and you can visit the State web for extra documents too.

Algebra 3 week of 04/18/2011-04/22/2011

First, we are 6 weeks away from the end of the semester, you need to continue to work hard every day and do your best.

Math 2 week of 04/11-04/15/2011

Welcome back from Spring Break, we have 7 weeks left and we will work hard on a daily basis and EOCT is coming on  May 9th.

Tutoring: Tuesday afternoon until 4:15 only, no Friday tutoring as I will be off campus in the afternoon due to final prom preparations. No morning tutoring this week due to prom ticket distribution and meetings.

Assessments: Minitest next Tuesday ( 04/19) and Wednesday ( 04/20)

Monday/ Tuesday

Today, we do a quick review of solving absolute value equations, writing absolute value functions as piecewise functions and writing equation of a graphed function. Then, we will follow with a short minitest on these concepts with the assistance of some notes.  We explore the inverses of functions by looking at the graphs of a given function and then its inverse. Notes are taken on how to find the inverse of function algebraically. For warmup today, the class will take a 5th 6 weeks posttest, this test counts as a quiz grade.

Today, we continue our look at the inverses of functions, proving two functions are inverses using composition of functions ( quick look) and then the comparision method.   If possible, a quick minitest is given on inverses algebraically. The class will start doing some EOCT warmups each day.
