Algebra 3- week of 10/3-10/7/2011

Tutoring this week: Monday afternoon until 5, Wednesday to Thursday mornings 7:45 - 8:15, I am not available Friday afternoon due to an out of town trip planned a couple of months ago.

Today, we look at ( 2.3)  finding domain algebraically and finding domain and range from a graph. It is an intense lesson so attendance in class is very important.

Thursday

Today, class learns domain of a function ( 2.2) algebraically. This lesson is intense and best if you are in attendance if possible. Class ends with a ticket out the door for some group sorting for the next class.

Math 2- week of 09/26-09/30/2011

Assessments: I have moved the unit one test two test to Monday and Tuesday next week, due to some mastery issues on the topics.

Monday ( white day)

Today,  class will receive quizzes back for reflection, I collect homework on Quadratic Formula and notes are given on Quadratic Inequalities.( 3.9). I will add some more instruction on the Quadratic Formula, as some students are still having problems with simplifying. First block white day will be pushed a bit further as class does not meet on Friday due to pep rally, so I will only have the class Monday and Wednesday before the test on the following Tuesday.

GPS Algebra Support- week of 09/19-09/23

Math 2- week of 09/19-09/26

Today in class, we recap the Quadratic Formula with some more notes and practice in class.  If time allows, a Quadratic Formula puzzle will be done. Also, we look at applications of Quadratic Functions. Finally, we take notes on 3.6 Square Roots and Quadratics. Next class will be a quick assessment on Quadratics ( Factoring and Quadratic Formula).

Today, you can finish your unit one test and I may allow you to use your notes :))). Also, you complete a KWHL sheet noting any information known about functions. You will have review of slope of a graph and between two ordered pairs and notes on equations of line. If time allows, we explore parallel and perpendicular lines using a discovery activity.

 Wednesday 09/21

 The class starts with a treasure hunt related to slopes. In terms of notes today, the class looks at the function status from a graph, mapping and ordered pairs. Also, we evaluate functions and preview for the quiz. Most work for functions will be done after the quiz on Friday. I will give you a quiz preview to study for the quiz.

Class begins with a review for the quiz , as we discuss the quiz review sheet and any other questions. This weekend, I will be finalizing grades for the 6 week mark.

The class will focus on solving a Quadratic by Factoring  ( when a is not equal to one), an intense lesson for all.  The unit one test one will be returned to the students with a discussion of the missed questions and test corrections will be made in class. My blue day class showed difficulty with factoring so I expect the lesson to be challenging for this class too. I will adapt my factoring approach for the success of all students

Blue day classes receive unit one test one back, with test errors noted and adjusting an incorrect answers.

Summative Assessment for unit one is today and the students will have the majority of the time for this assessment. Before the test, I will answer any review sheet questions and any other questions from unit one. After the test, the students write a reflection of the unit, noting their strengths and their weaknesses.

Tutoring schedule update

Tutoring Update:

The school is hosting Wellness classes on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and I am participating in these classes until 5 pm. I will be tutoring on Tuesday afternoons now  from 5 pm to 6 pm.  I will continue to tutor most Friday afternoons ( except 09/23 ( hosting an art party at the children's hospital),October 7th ( leaving town) and October 21(attending concert with family))..

My tutoring schedule is Tuesday mornings, Tuesday afternoons ( 5 to 6 pm) and Friday afternoons. I am also available by appointment and I am happy to find a time to fit your schedule and mine.
