Math 2- week of 11/28/2011-12/2/2011

Welcome back from the break, I hope you are refreshed and ready to learn with the circles unit. First semester is over in 4 weeks.

Tutoring this week: Monday afternoon ( around 4:00, after a conference) and Friday afternoon.

Assessments this week: Quick quiz on Wednesday and circles test is projected for 12/12/2011.

Monday /Tuesday

Today,  we start with a review of steps to apply a Quadratic in a framework ( mainly a picture frame). We review the theorems of 6.6 and learn the theorems of tangents in section 6.1. I will be out of 4th Tuesday, yet we will catch up with the theorems on Thursday in class. I will have the formula sheet ready for you.

Wednesday/Thursday

Today, we start with a review of right triangles and shapes.  We move along in the circle theorems and work on 6.3 chords and 6.2 arc measure.

Friday/ Monday

We have a quiz preview for a little in class quiz on the theorems covered thus far ( 6.6, 6.1 and 6.3). Then, the class takes a quiz and notes are given on 6.4 inscribed angles and 6.5 other angles.

We look at a real world example of an ellipse at the White House and then move on to the hyperbola conic ( 4.4/4.5). These are similar to an ellipse.

Class today will finish unit two, test two, analyze 9 week common assessments and look at the vocabulary for the new unit. Vocab is investigated with a sunrise task and then a cut and paste activity.

The class today learns about tangents to a circle ( 6.1)  and properties of chords ( 6.3). We will review linear equations and pythagorean theorem before the notes. If time allows, a KIM chart is created to help with vocabulary.

The class begins with a warmup of looking at quadratics and analyzing characteristics. Specifically, you will be given a quadratic equation and you are to determine the object location at various times. We look at ( 6.2) Arc Measures and how to determine the measure of an arc.

Today, the class reviews simplifying radical expressions and how to add and subtract radical expresssions. The review of like terms will be done before the adding and subtracting lesson. Today, the class takes a class evaluation of the class and the teacher.

Thursday, 11/17

We are graphing ellipses today ( 4.4/4.5), they are very similar to circles, yet they are not round. An ellipse is oval shaped. The class will review graphing points and writing the coordinates of a point before explicit instruction today.

HW: Ellipse problems from book resources and we will have a short quiz on circles and ellipses when you return from the break, I will allow you to use notes for this quiz :)

The beginning  of class are the student reflections of the 1st 9 week assessment.
