Tutoring update to week of 01/30/2012-02/03/2012

I have a parent teacher conference on Thursday morning now and unable to have tutoring on Thursday morning. I will be available for tutoring on Tuesday morning and Friday afternoon this week.

Math 2, there is standards based tutoring on Tuesday afternoon in room 422 ( my room)  and Thursday afternoon in room 204. This tutoring runs from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm.

GPS Algebra Support- week of 01/30/2012-02/03/2012

Tutoring this week: Tuesday and Thursday mornings and Friday afternoon. My normal tutoring schedule is white day mornings and Friday afternoons. FYI, I am unavailable on Friday, April 13 due to prom.

This week in GPS Algebra, we will look at the different functions and their graphs, the translations of the graphs ( only the vertical changes, reflections and shrinking and expansion). We will finish up the discovery activity of the function types using x, y tables. Also, I will have some exploratory on the translations of functions. In addition, we learn the characteristics of the graphs ( domain, range, interval of increase/ decrease, zeros, intercepts, end behavior and rates of change). Finally, we look at function rules and how to write the rule for a function.  Functions are a wide topic and there is lots of material to cover.   If you have a topic in your Algebra class you want me to incorporate into Support, let me know and I will put the topic on the agenda.

Monday/ Tuesday

Today, we start the new unit on standard deviation, a way to compare sets of data or a set of data.  The class starts with the anticipation guide and a review of mean. We will look at population standard deviation.   I think you will like this unit as there are a couple of formulas to know and apply.

Wednesday/ Thursday

Today, we move along today in our unit to comparing the standard deviation of two sets of population data.  In class, we interpret the two sets of data in terms of mean and standard deviation.  If time allows, we move along to interpreting a line plot.

Today, we look at exponential and logarthmic functions, learning how to solve them using properties of logarithms. I will allow you to practice in class on these functions as they can present a challenge at times.

Tuesday/Thursday

This week, we look at function notation and how to use the notation.  The introduction will be a task on function notation and what it means. Also, we look at domain and range of various graphs. The notes will be enriched with a notes sheet of the graphs to allow students to touch the graph, and add markings on the graph if needed for the domain and range. The class will also practice the concepts with given graphs.

The class reviews the radius change effects and takes a test on spheres. You need to do the review sheet to study for this test. After the test, the class receives an anticipation guide sheet on circles and spheres, it will due in two class periods.

Tuesday /Wednesday

Today in class, you receive your unit test back for reflection. Also, we look at the calculation of the change of the radius if given the change in the volume and work on a sphere puzzle. You will finish the anticipation guide on circles and spheres and look at the midterm for missed questions and correct questions with the use of a survey like the 1st 9 weeks assessment. If time allows, we will  review mean of a set of data.

Thursday/ Friday

We work on standard deviation by hand today and begin to interpret the results of the standard deviation.  We also learn how to find the standard deviation in the calculator ( TI30X-IIS). The students are able to check the by hand process in the calculator.

Class takes a class on logarithms, the number "e"  and exponential growth and decay graphs.  We will see growth and decay with paper folding and take notes on the "e" graphs ( 5.2). The summary will be sentence expanding.

This week, you take a quiz on functions, how to identify if a given relation is a function from graphing form, ordered pairs, mapping.  Then, we look at finding the domain and range of a graph and domain and range of ordered pairs. Also, we look at function notation and how to evaluate functions.

Week of 01/17-01/23/2012 Math 2

Tutoring: Tuesday and Thursday mornings and Friday afternoon. Standards- based tutoring is Tuesday in my room ( 422) and Thursday ( room 204).

Assessments: Test on Friday for blue day and Monday for white day

This week in Math 2

Tuesday ( white day)

Classes ( 1st and 2nd) will be one hour due to the pep rally. We will check on the mastery of surface area of sphere and  we learn how to take the volume of a sphere ( 6.9).  If itme allows in 4th, we will discover the effect of a change in radius.

Wednesday and Thursday

Today, you have several items due: the circle picture, the garden and building expansion problems and the extra credit bicycle race.

The class will look at 6.9 with the change in radius and the effect on the volume and surface area of a sphere. We will do some discovery to find the effects before the formula is revealed. Also, a review of right triangle trignometry is done with the sphere review sheet.  If time allows, we will do a puzzle on spheres.

Friday and Monday

It is test day on spheres and problems on right triangle trigonometry. I hope all have studied for this test.  After the test, the class will work on the anticipation guide for circles and spheres.
