4) Activator: Journal prompt:

Have you ever lost something that belonged to someone else?  If so, what happened?  If not, has someone ever lost something you let them borrow?

   Do you think you would be able to hunt with General Zaroff? Why or why not? Be very  

   specific....

5) Students will complete "The Most Dangerous Game" storyboards.

6) Students will start reading "The Necklace"....

7) We will read "The Necklace aloud, stopping for comprehension and clarification questions...until the end of the story.

8) Students will write an alternate ending to "The Necklace"....

Also, students have an option of choosing a book for the bookshelf in the classroom. Students also have to fill out a reading log to keep track of reading per class period.

2) Students complete anticipation guide for TMDG "The Most Dangerous Game". Students had to decide how they felt about different scenarios that relates to the short story.

For example: It is OK to hunt for sport....agree, somewhat agree, somewhat disagree, disagree

3)  Students will start reading "The Most Dangerous Game"... from new literature book. This short story will take approximately two class periods to complete.

4) Students will take a Vocabulary Test over "The Most Dangerous Game" vocabulary....

Ex: futile, scruples, palpable, naive, indolently.....

5) Students will watch old version of "The Most Dangerous Game" movie (1966) and "Surviving the Game". They will compare and contrast the movies, and original short story on a venn diagram.

6) Students will take a Vocabulary Quiz over vocabulary words and approx. 6 short story terms.

1st Period/Servalis (Blue & White) / 2nd Period/ Servalis (Blue)

1) Teachers will review access to USA Test prep. We will show students how to sign-up and log in to the website. The web address is www.usatestprep.com.

2) Students will complete the 9th Literature Pre-test from the EOCT workbook. There are multiple choice questions and approximately 5 passages the students will read before answering the questions.

3) Students will do SSR (Sustained Silent Reading) for 15 minutes. We are asking that students bring a novel from home or they can select one from our book cabinet.

4) Students will participate in a Scavenger Hunt. This will give the students an opportunity to interact with each other and begin to establish a rapport with their classmates.

Monday-Wednesday

2nd Period White/Carwile

1) Students will do SSR (Sustained Silent Reading) for 15 minutes. We are asking that students bring a novel from home or they can select one from our book box.

2) Students will complete the 9th Literature Pre-test from the EOCT workbook. There are multiple choice questions and approximately 5 passages the students will read before answering the questions.

3) Students will create classroom norms. This activity includes discussing what is appropriate in class, school, and etc...

4) Teachers will discuss the standards with an activity called "Standard Stop".

5) Teacher will give students vocabulary from the standards, and short story unit (fiction & non-fiction). For example: analyze, describe, setting, theme, antagonist, protagonist, etc...

Monday-Wednesday

3rd Period White & Blue/Morris

1) Teacher will introduce the quote of the day, SAT word of the day, and Journal Topic. Students are to write all there componets in their Journal notebook. This acticvity will take place daily. This serves as a warm-up to our lesson.

2) Students will complete a practice reading comprehension packet on "Sleep". There are approximately 10 questions the students will respond to after reading the passage.

3) Students will do SSR (Sustained Silent Reading) for 15 minutes. We are asking that students bring a novel from home or they can select one from our bookshelf.

4) Students will complete a bio-poem in class. Students will be given the instructions and example to follow. Students are writing a poem about themselves in a specific format.
