Everyday-Students will write Journal, Quote of the Day, SAT Word...
1) Students will read for 20 minutes a day for Stained Silent(SSR). Each student can bring a book from home as long as it is approved by teachers. After reading each day, students are responsible for completing a reading log summary. Also, students have an option of choosing a book for the bookshelf in the classroom.
2) Teachers will review the vocabulary words for "The Necklace"....Ex: dowdy, resplendent, rueful, askew, dejection, etc...
2) Students will start and finish reading "The Necklace".....
3) Students will be quizzed over the vocabulary for "The Necklace"
4) Students will write an alternate ending for "The Necklace"...
5) Introduce Edgar Allen Poe and his works "The Cask of Amontillado". Also, introduce the vocabulary for this short story. Students will be assigned a power-point vocabulary activity. Students will be paired in groups to present one vocabulary word from the list including the origin of the word, picture, synonyms, antonyms, sentence, etc...
6) Students will take a Short Story Vocabulary Test over "The Cask Amontillado" Vocabulary Ex: connoisseurship, revenge, cask, amontillado....
7) Students will do philosophical chairs over main conflict issues in "The Cask of Amontillado". This activity will be done with individual white boards. Students will respond to questions in reference to statements related to "The Cask of Amontillado". Ex: Revenge is ok when someone has hurt you or your family.
8) Students will read "The Cask of Amontillado".....
9) Students will take Comprehensive Test over "The Cask of Amontillado" from workbook.
Any classwork that is not completed in class will be HOMEWORK!! Students that don't have the opportunity to finish vocabulary powerpoint project in class can come after school to use computer lab to complete assignment.
