Daily Writing-Students are given a daily writing assignment over a topic that relates to the unit, standard, or lesson in which we are studying.
SSR-Students will read silent once a week for Sustained Silent Reading. Students will choose a book or bring a book from home and read for approximately 15 minutes. Students will then write a short summary over what they read for that day.
Students will practice grammar with reviewing....1) Verbs, 2) Adjectives, 3) Adverbs.
Students will continue poetry unit and adding to poetry portfolios...1) Name activity: Fold paper into three sections...Frist Name, Middle Name, and Last Name. Then on back side create an Acrostic with first and last names, adjectives describing yourself, and what you wish your name could be? 2) Read: "Casey and the Bat" and annotate poem. Students are looking for character description, poetic devices, symbolic meaning, puns, figurative language, unfamiliar word, etc... 3) Rap Lyrics and Love Ballads: Students will annotate a rap and love ballad, and for home work they will annotate their favorite lyrics and we will discuss in class next week.
Teachers will introduce Poetry Vocabulary 2: Sonnets, idioms, proverbs, assonance, narrative poem, lyric poem, dramatic poem, epic poem, etc...
