Drama Unit

Students will continue reading and studying the play "Romeo & Juliet".

Differentiation

Let's Act it out!!

• Students will be broken up into groups of 4 or 5 and will have to act out scenes in which they will be assigned by teachers. Each group will be assigned a team captain. They will have one class period to Act out their scenes. The teams will also be responsible for reading the "No fear" version of "Romeo & Juliet" in their groups. Each group will be given a participation grade. The team with the best presentation will be given a 100 pt. extra credit grade.
• Complete the Act 3 study guide in their teams.
• Students will take a Act 3 Quiz.
• Students will complete Acts 4 & 5 study guide as they finishing the movie. (Wells)
• Students will take Acts 4 & 5 Quiz.  (Wells)  
• Students will watch the 1966 version of "Romeo & Juliet" as a visual presentation to help connect the language and events of the drama.
• Students will practice on www.usatestprep.com for EOCT for warm-ups.

March 14th-18th

Journal/Daily Writing- Students will complete a daily journal assignment given by the teachers. Example Journal Topics: Do you believe in love at first sight? Would you date someone that your parents don't approve of and against their will? Do you think revenge is an option when someone has wronged you or your family?

Reading Comprehension packets....Exercises will help prepare students for EOCT.

Class is signed up this week to do individual practice on www.usatestprep.com to help prepare them for EOCT.  

Once a week (SSR): Students will read silent at their desk for 15-20 minutes. Students will then write a short summary on a reading log discussing what they read for that day. Teachers will model this with students. Students will have a summarizer after every silent reading exercise specifically for their book.

Warm-up: Teachers will use USA test-prep to review for EOCT.....



Wells

Introduction of Journal Matrix: Students will view the possible 32 journal prompts and select one topic to write about.

Students will do a journal.....Students will take a character from "Romeo & Juliet" and write a blog status as if they were writing on facebook or twitter.

EQ: How does drama shape my opinion on society? How is a play similar to and different from a novel, short story, or a poem? How are comedies and tragedies alike and different? How does a playwright use dramatic elements to create and enhance a play? What strategies can we employ to make sense out of the Elizabethan language Shakespeare plays are written? How does reading drama affect the decisions I make in my life? Where do we find Shakespeare today?

Silent Reading-Students will read silently for approximately 15 minutes once a week. Students will be given an assignment at the end of two weeks to reflect their reading skills.

1) Students will read Act II from the new 9th grade literature book. Although teachers are using an adapted version, we decided to expose the students to the original language for Act II of Romeo & Juliet.

2) Complete study guide for Act II.

3) Possibly watch Acts I & II from the 1967 version of the play. (For visual leaners)

4) Review Vocabulary I words and take Vocabulary I quiz for Drama Unit…

5) Take an Act 1 Test at the beginning of the week. Some classes will take an Act II Quick Quiz this week.

6) Review study guide to prepare students for an Act II Test on next Monday & Tuesday!!

Students will start introduction material to Romeo & Juliet. (Servalis)

Students will finish watch movie “Shakespeare in Love”……Complete Critical Thinking Questions and Answer & Six sequence graphic organizer. Students will illustrate six scenes from “Shakespeare in Love”. Each scene helps describe Shakespeare’s inspiration behind writing Romeo & Juliet.
