1/31 - go over the results from the quiz on "The Baddest Dog in Harlem" & then grpahic organizer on character's action & motivation, discuss dialect/slang & how it varies throughout time periods & among racial groups & begin reading Langston Hughes "Why, You Reckon?"

2/2 - Finish reading the story, finish the graphic organizer & take quiz on "Why, You Reckon?"

1/30 - 1/31 - EOCT Lesson 10 History of Poetry - view aspects of paintings & identify what makes them romatic

2/1 - 2/2 - Begin Poe's "The Raven" & TP-CASTT graphic organizer on analyzing poetic elements & view The Simpsons version of "The Raven"

2/3 - Read Poe's "Annabel Lee" & compare/contrast his 2 poems, read excerpt from "The Fall of the House of Usher" & ppt on Gothic literature

Week of January 23rd

1/23 - the last day to turn in the $9.00 for the novel "The Absolute Diary of a Part-Time Indian" & begin new story "The Baddest Dog in Harlem"

1/25 - ACCESS Group Testing - Finish reading story & take quiz

1/27 - make up any quizzes & USA Test Prep on Writing

This is an odd week because many of you will be taking the EOCT for Economics so I will not see you this week.  If that is the case, you already have the midterm review study guide.  Again, in preparation for college & the real world, you are expected to look up the concepts and literary devices on the midterm on your own & then we will review.  You must take on the responsibility for your own education & future!

Week of December 12th

All week we are completing & reviewing the midterm packet. There are 9 skills/standards that are being assessed on the midterm.  If you chose not to complete the packet, your grade on the midterm will reflect your lack of effort.  Please bring the packet to every class this week.

Your are reminded that there is after-school tutoring both in my room & in the Betty Grey building for English.

Use your time, both in class & after school wisely!
