Finishing up homonyms

2/28 & 3/1 - Homonyms quiz on Lessons 6 - 10 & the final pretest for the year which comes from the USA Test Prep website on writing conventions.

3/2 & 3/3 - Go over the results from the Homonyms quiz & begin Strategy 22 which is all about the writing process & the steps of good writing - plan, organize, draft, revise & publish

3/4 - Continue with Strategy 22 & discuss the importance of brainstorming.

The end of "First Love"

2/28 & 3/1 - We will be finishing with the memoir & then doing a graphic organizer on theme.  Once those items are completed, we will take the vocabulary & comprehension quiz on the memoir.  We will be taking the final Pretest for this year as well.

3/2 - 3/4 - We will go over the results from the quiz & begin the new vocabulary for the memoir"Beets" & begin reading.  We will also be reviewing terms that are commonly found on the GHSGT.

 

Poetry/Song lyrics project due 3/3 & 3/4

Remember you are getting 2 grades for this project - 1 for writing & 1 for Listening, Speaking & Viewing.

Those are 2 categories where you don't have as many grades, so this project can greatly help or harm your GPA.  I am looking forward to hearing what you've written & learning more about what inspired you.

We will be taking the last Stop Drop & Assess Pretest for the year on 2/28 & 3/1.

We will continue working on GHSGT prep for the remainder of the week.

Focus more in class!

As the break nears, many of you feel as if we should start relaxing now.  Guess what? The answer is NO!

Daily we are doing writing practice, proofreading warm-ups & other activities to help you become better writers.  That will not happen if you decide to start your break while we are still in class.

This week we are learning & practicing the first 3 steps of writing - plan, organize, draft, revise & publish.  The last 2 steps will be worked on after break.

In addition, we will be working on Homonyms Lesson 10 & you will have the test on Homonyms Lessons 6 - 10 On Thursday, Feb. 16 & Friday, Feb. 17.

GHSGWT - retakes Wednesday 2/16

I hope those of you who needed it went to the day-long training given by the English Dept.  I know what you learned will prove essential in passing the writing test.  Just focus & give it your best shot!

2/14 & 2/15 Monday & Tuesday- We will begin reading the memoir "First Love" & discuss the new vocabulary.

2/16 Wednesday - GHSGWT - Good luck to those who will be testing!

2/16 & 2/17 Wednesday & Thursday - Finish reading "First Love" & begin the graphic organizer on theme.  In class GHSGT reading practice passage "College-Bound Turnaround" which is to be finished for HW.

2/18 Friday - Comprehension & Vocabulary quiz on "First Love".  Turn in HW.

Poetry/Song lyric project

Monday 2/14 & Tuesday 2/15 - We will be discussing the poetry/song lyric project.  You will receive a handout with all the detailed requirements.  We will continue with the poems "I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud" & The Spring & the Fall" each of which are a grade.

Wednesday 2/16 - GHSGWT - retakes for those who need it. 

Wednesday 2/16 - Friday 2/18 In class we will go over graded poems & review literary formats, figurative  language & form in poetry.  These are major GHSGT & EOCT review days.  Please be present!  Shiver Checkpoints quiz on Chapters 13 - 30 on Thursday for white day class & Friday for the blue day class.

Your February break is the perfect time to work on your project.  Don't waste it!
