Begin reading a new story - "Two Kinds" by Amy Tan

New vocabulary will be introduced

Graphic organizer on conflicts & resolutions

Comprehension & Vocabulary Quiz on the story

 Letters will be sent home to those students who need extra help/tutoring on the GHSGT.

Week of October 24

We will watch the movie for Acts 1 & 2.  I will be stopping the movie to check for understanding.

We will discuss the differences between external & internal conflict.

EOCT warm up on IRespond

Thursday & Friday - we will watch a video on the Salem Witch Trials & you will have to complete a handout on the video.

Week of October 17th

Tuesday - 9 week assessment

Thursday - read an active reading model "Roots:  Random Thoughts on Random Hair" & discuss how to predict, clarify meaning of text, evaluate writing techniques, connect to the text, summarize & question.  Once that's completed, we will read a fiction story "Here's Herbie" & practice the same techniques.

Week of October 17th

Monday & Tuesday - 9 Week Assessment - we will use IRespond to record the data

Wednesday & Thursday - Assessment on The Crucible Act One.  Begin reading Act Two

Friday - Watch a video on The Salem Witch trials & complete a worksheet on the video.  This is an in-class activity & you must be present to receive a grade.

Week of October 10 - 14

We will finish reading our Native American short story, "This Is What It Means to Say Phoenix, AZ"

We will complete the flashback graphic organizer which you can use on your Comprehension Quiz.

Comprehension Quiz

Watch the movie "Smoke Signals" which is based on the short story we just read.  You will have comprehension questions on the movie as you watch it.  If you are not here, you cannot make up the movie quiz.

So please be present & pay attention.

Week of October 10 - 14

This week we will continue reading The Crucible Act One, Scene One. 

In class we will watch a video on the Salem Witch Trials.

We will discuss the 3 types of irony.

Once we finish reading Act One, we will watch the movie clip of that segment.

On Friday, we will discuss your Facebook project on your major character.
