Don't forget over break that you need to finish your prop shoot to be turned in the Monday we get back. You will get 15 points off as this is the late date. Also over break you should be working on your landscape and architecture shoot. I was going to have this be due Friday the 4th but just remembered  I will techniqually be "out" that day helping with 9th grade registration. So it will be due Tuesday the 6th! This mean syou have 2 and 1/2 weeks on this shoot so go the extra mile! Enjoy your break!

February 14th-18th

Comprehensive Art-Monday the blue day class will be taking their quiz on Medieval and Islamic art and the Harlem Renaissance. They will also need to complete their collages. This is ABSOLUTELY the last day on these. People who have finished may create a Jim Dine inspired artwork for Valentine's day. Download Jim Dine Valentine. Tuesday and Wednesday students will be learning about mask from around the world and the various reasons for their creation. Then we will focus on African mask. Students will then sketch and design an African inspire mask. Next, they will use aluminum foil, paper, and masking tape to build up the base for their mask. Thursday and Friday of this week students will begin to papier mache their masks. Download What’s Behind a Mask

Photography- Tuesday students will work on their advertisement in Photoshop. Students should have taken a picture of a product of their choice to use in the advertisement. We will take a quiz on Photoshop tools. Thursday, the prop photoshoot is due! Let's not be late!!!!! I will also be going over expectations for the landscape/architecture shoot that will be due upon our return from break next week.

Ceramics- Students should be finishing up their Greek inspired mask and beginning to glaze or cold decorate their effigy vessels. We will have a quiz on Wednesday over terms and techniques from this 6 weeks. Friday we will have a critique of out effigy vessels. I will also introduce students to the next project which we will begin when we get back in march. Students will use clay to create a realistic looking everyday object. These are called trompe l'oeils. Students will need to plan and make sketches.

February 7th-11th

Comprehensive Art History- This week students will be finishing up their Bearden style collages. Those that finish early will have the opporturnity to make a Valentine card in the style of Pop artist, Jim Dine.We will also review what we have learned so far this 6 weeks on Medieval art and the Harlem Renaissance because their quiz will be Friday, 2/11for white day and Monday, 2/14 for Blue day.

Photography- Outside of class students should be working on their "Prop shoot" Download Props. In class, students are working on their advertisement in Photoshop. Wednesday in class, in groups of two, students will research and African American photographer of their choice and then on Friday they will present these artist to the class using Power Point.

Ceramics- This week students will be working on their Greek inspired mask showing an emotion. When they finish these they may glaze or cold decorate their Effigy Vessels.

January 31st-February 4th

Coprehensive Art- In honor of black history month, we will be looking at and studying the Harlem Renaissance. Download Harlem Renaissance. We will focus on artist, Romare Bearden and his collages. Students will create their own collage in his style. Download Romare Bearden Check List. Students may choose their subject matter from 4 different topics- a music genre (because Bearden was inspired by jazz), a childhood memory, a current event (something in the news), or something from their personal culture. Students will be given 3 class periods to work on these. They should use various 2D materials such as magazines, construction paper, fabric, tissue paper, scrapbook materials, newspapers, etc.

Photography- Students currently have their color shoots due for presentation. They should also complete their Photoshop assignment of creating a hybrid of one animate and one inanimate object by class on Thursday. Today I gave students calendars for the semester. It lays out the rest of the "shoot" assignments and the rest of the Photoshop assigments so that students may work ahead if need be. Ceramics- Students MUST complete their effigy vessels by the end of class on Friday! For those that have already finished or will be finished before Friday, I will introduce the next assignment which will be Greek inspired mask displaying an emotion. Download It’s Greek to me Masks. We will meet 7 more times before the week off in February. We have to complete the effigy vessels, glaze them, and complete the masks before then.
