September 26th-30th

It's Homecoming week and also Open House. Parents, please stop by on Tuesday night at 6:30 to meet your student's teachers.

Comp Art-This week students are making their own sketchbooks or visual journals. Studnets will use these almost daily for warm ups, sketches, jounals, and art history note taking. Students will decorate the outside of their journals using either collage or with markers/colored pencils. We will then assemble the sketchbooks using a simplified binding method.

Photography-Students should be working on a "favorite color" shoot outside of class. Download Color This shoot is due for critique on Wednesday the 5ht of October. Students will create a shoot based around one color of their choice. In class we will begin using Photoshop by learning the basic tools.

Ceramics- Students are glazing their coil pots. These will take all week to fire and we will have critique next week. Students also are finishing up their slump plates which are decorated using underglaze. Thursday, students will begin creating bottles using textured slabs.

September 19-23

Comprehensive art- This week students are continuing their "Expressive Hands" project. They are using contour lines to draw 5 hands in different poses. Download Expressive HAnds for the directions and to see how the students will be assessed. We are also starting to look at Prehistoric art. We will look at the Venus of Willendorf, the first known sculpture, and The Caves at Lascaux, the first known paintings. Photography- Students should be working on their 6X4 shoot outside of class. Students will compile their images on Wednesday and present them to the class for critique on Friday. Today in class we looked at photographer, Joe McNally and his work. Students choose one of his paintings of a biker at the Grand Canyon and wrote a critique of the work.  I will also be giving students a list of all of their assignments for the year so that they can work ahead if they choose. Ceramics- Tuesday students will decorate the slump plates they made on Friday by hand painting them with underglazes. Students may also have the option of using stencils to to decorate their plates. Thursday students will be glazing their coil pots.

September 12-16

Comprehensive Art-This week we will be beginning a line project. Students will be drawing contour line drawings of hands from observation.Download Expressive Hands

Photography- This week students are working on their 6X4 shoot outside of school. For this shoot they should take 6 subjects 4 times each. This will be due on Friday the 23rd for critique. In class we will be looking at the differences between SLR and point and shoot cameras. We will also look at file formats.

Ceramics-Students will finish their coil pots on Monday.Wednesday we will glaze our pinch pots. Friday we will begin making slab plates using a slump mold.
