Conics - Definitions, graphs, equations and pictures

 Students will begin exploring conics.

Students will be divided into groups of 4.  Within the group each student will be assigned one conic to research.  The student will

-        find 2 definitions for their conic, and then they will create a working definition of their own.

-        find 2 equations for their conic, explaining what each variable stands for.

-        Students will create a graph of their conic identifying key elements.  They can use sketchpad or any other means to create the graph.

-        a picture of their conic in the real world.

Then the student will report back to their group and together the group will create a document that contains their working definitions, equations with explanations, graphs and pictures in a word document.

Each group will hand in one printout and keep one for each member for their notes.
