Music Theory Classes - will be learning the first skills in piano performance. We will work on reading the notes on music paper and relating them with the keys on the piano. Performance skills include: finding all the "c's" on the piano, playing a C tetrachord, chords, arpeggios, differentiating between whole and half steps, and playing a simple tune. The next week - after Labor Day holiday - we will continue piano skills.
Orchestra Classes - will finish sightreading selections for possible use on the concert in October. Once the selections are picked, we will begin in earnest rehearsing them, as we only have 5 1/2 weeks to prepare. In addition to concert music, students will be reviewing and practicing techniques begun the first week: scales, rhythms, and shifting - in addition to tuning, vibrato, and articulations. There are STILL some violinists and violists that have not gotten their instruments yet. The time was past as of 8/22.
