After wrapping up geometric sequences we began with logs.  How does a log relate to an exponential function?  What about the graphs?  How do you think you might solve a log equation or use a log to solve an exponential equation?

Today we learned how to solve exponential equations by equating the exponents.  The first step was to change the bases to be the same.  Will this always work?  Why or why not?

Homework is from the book pp 130 and 131 # 1-9 on both pages (a total of 18 problems). 

Check your answers to make sure you are using the algebra appropriately.

AP Calculus

We continue to practice for the AP test and review for the final exam.  Finish problems 4 thru 6 for homework (free response problems from the 2003 test).  These are non-calculator problems so adhere to the rules.

Today we review arithmetic functions and linked geometric functions to exponential functions.

Tomorrow, after a couple of brief examples on geometric sequences, we will begin with logs.  They're pretty easy--almost like falling off <ahem> a log. 

Here's a preview of the geometric sequence example. 

You have a super ball that attains 90 percent of its height each time it bounces....  Can you think of how this is geometric?  What would r be?  Does this sequence converge or diverge?

In the movie "Flubber", Professor Brainard made a substance that gained energy rather than lost energy when it bounced.... Can you think of how this is geometric?  Does this sequence converge or diverge?  If a "flubber" ball doubles the bounce height with each bounce, what is r?

Today you reviewed for the test on Law of Sines and Law of Cosines.  I am concerned by the amount of work (or the the lack thereof) you have done.  Some of you really need to practice in order to finish the test within the time allotted.  You will only have Wednesday for the test.

Several of you requested the answers to the review on the blog.  However, since so few made any real progress on the review, I would prefer that you stop by Tuesday afternoon, show me the work you did on the review in exchange for a copy of the answers.  If you come to tutoring Tuesday afternoon you may have a copy as well.

math 2 for 4/23

I am not sure how much class we will have tomorrow due to Changing of the Chairs.  Be prepared to work in class on an activity on exponential equations and have your homework ready to turn in.  Next week we test on this unit so far and we review for the EOCT.

I am not sure how class, if any we will have tomorrow.  continue to work on the free response questions until I see you on Tuesday.

Instead of the traditional quiz we did a mini task on exponential equations.  Tomorrow you will finish the add'l task within the same group. 

EOCT countdown is 11 days!  Time flies when you are having fun.

Today you had the opportunity to finish the unit work on Law of Sines and Law of Cosines.  Because of changing of the chairs practice, 1st period's work is due on Monday--at the beginning of class.  2nd period your work was due today.

Because of the unusual schedule this week due to Senior Week and prom the test has been moved to next week--probably Wednesday.  We will review in class on Monday.
