AM3

Today was definitely a vocab day.  It was not the most interesting thing to do, but there are a lot of terms that statisticians use that are similar to (or are the same) as other math terms but have completely different meaning.  (Think of range, parameter, etc.)

Tonight finish the station exercise on your own.  Work on stations 3 and 4 should be perfect or nearly so since you all have had extended practice on the binomial distribution and the normal distribution.

Be prepared, as well, for more ticket out the door evaluations.  If your homework is with you and complete, these should be easy.

Calculus

Both classes have now requizzed on simple limits.  If you are having trouble with these concepts then you should make the time to come to tutoring in the morning.  Limits are the foundation for the rest of calculus and you need to establish a firm foundation now before we get to the derivative and all its wonderful applications.

If you haven't completed page 76 # 1- 44 (even) make sure you do so before I see you next.

Math 3 through 9/1

At this point we have stayed pretty much in two strands of our concept map:  performing matrix operations and examining matrix properties.  By the end of class on 9/1 we will have also found an inverse of a 2x2 matrix (if we haven't already done so!)  There is a 30 minute homeroom on 9/1 so that will affect how much we can do.

You should bring your book and note taking guide with you to class every day unless I tell you otherwise.

The last assignment from section 1.10 came from both.  P. 58 and 59 in the NTG # 1- 18 and # 1-9 in the book.

As a quick self-check  you should be able to add or subtract matrices, multiply by a number (scalar multiplication), know when and how to multiply two matrices, find the determinant of a square matrix AND find the area of a triangle using the determinant.

Calculus

Finish the problems from p. 76. Re- quiz on Monday/Tuesday. Practice!

Math 3 (blue day)

Today we applied determinants to a simple but useful application, finding the area of a triangle. The plus/minus symbol usually means two answers, one positive and one negative, but this time it simply meant change the sign to positive. What other symbol usually means this? HW section 1.10 #1-9,skip the problems on Cramer's rule. Also #1-18 in the same section of your note taking guide.

AM3

Today we completed the in class review of prior data analysis topics. Because we spent the day essentially completing the warm up, we will finish the stations task independently.

Math 3

Because of Tuesday's meeting, 2nd period is still a bit behind the other classes (white day not blue).  We will have some serious work to do to get caught up. 

YOU WILL NEED A CALCULATOR! 

We are now in another strand on our concept map:  finding inverses.  1st period has an assignment--the 18 problems from the board, due Monday.  On Monday we will have an application of the determinant.  And we will continue finding inverses and possibly even using them to solve systems of equations.

Calculus

Today we talked about limits at infinity.  What rules did we find?  Apply those rules in your assignment, p. 76 # 1- 44, even.

Also, try your quiz again at home.  Look for similar problems in section 2.1.  The re-quiz is Monday!
