Today we recapped geometric sequences.  We discussed the formulas for partial and infinite sums of geometric series. How did finding the sum of an infinite geometric series relate to the convergence and divergence of a sequence?

Finish the problems from Wednesday from the packet and do p. 767 #5.   

Calculus

Today we recapped what you did when I was absent on finding the derivatives of trig functions.  We then extended to find the derivative of a composition of functions using the chain rule.

If you haven't finished the assignment on the derivatives of trig functions (from the packet) do that for homework.  Try a few of the problems from the last page (using the chain rule).  We will take time in class on Wednesday for extended practice.

Math 3

Today we started with families of polynomial functions.  You should be able to tell how many y-intercepts and how many x-intercepts each family has.  You should also be able to sketch a (possible) graph if you know the degree and the leading coefficient.

No homework tonight--we had a few more things to do before time ran out.  next time!

Today was all about the geometric sequences.

Revisist problems 1 - 13 on p. 645, HOWEVER--Just do the (a) part and if the sequence is geometric or arithmetic, give the common ratio or the common difference

Read ahead to on p. 651-653.  Of the three sequences we looked at today.  One diverged and the other two converged.  Why?

(There are helpful formulas on p. 656 in the gray box.  You do NOT need the binomial series formulas.

Calculus

Finish the problems from the packet from # 1- 31.  next up derivatives of trig functions and the chain rule!

AM3--quick reminder

Koch snowflake problem is due tomorrow.  Try to have fun with it--you should be able to compare your result with the picture at the top of the page.

Calculus

Today we took a day to just practice with the rules of differentiation.  This highlighted a few holes some of you have in your algebra skills, but you continued to work through the problems! 

If you did not finish the practice problems on p. 197 of the packet --do so for homework.  In the section that begins with # 25, the instructions say find dy/dx | x=1  (I can't use the same symbols, but compare and you'll see what I mean).  That means to find the derivative and plug in 1.   

Next class we will find the derivatives of trig functions--more fun!

We will finish the culminating task on linear programming in the first 30 minutes.  We will then start with a new unit!

POLYNOMIALS!  This unit is not on the graduation test, but many of the techniques we use apply to topics that are.  Be prepared to work!
