Petit allegro: little fast. "Sprightly combinations of small jumping movements performed at a quick tempo." Another definition is "small jumping movements performed close to the floor and achieved mainly through action in the feet, ankles, and knees." All steps of elevation come under this classification. The majority of dances are built upon allegro. The most important qualities to aim for are lightness, smoothness, and ballon.
As we continue our discoveries this six weeks into petit allegro, I wanted you to have several options of definitions to help you understand better what you are trying to achieve.
Remember that water, rest and stretching when you are warmed up will help you achieve your dancer "in shape" faster. Have a great evening!
