September 30, 2010

1st period- Students attended a program in the theater called Robes in Schools.  This program was part of the Just the Beginning Foundation.  I want to thank my students for their attention and outstanding behavior during this hour.  You will receive your alternate assignment on Monday for the 1st 6 weeks post test if you did not meet the standards.

2nd and 3rd period- We watched the movie Dead Poet's Society and are focusing on these topics in personality theory: Humanistic Theory, locus of control, defense mechanisms, inferiority complexes, Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and a few other topics.

The next module of study is Module 2 that deals with Research and Strategies in Psychology.  The self-test for that module is due on 10/8.

Class was very short due to the GHSGWT.

Students received a study guide for Unit 1, a review sheet for the Constitution and a review sheet for Checks and balances.  They already had a chapter 3 review sheet.  All items should be completed for class on Friday.

September 29, 2010

1st period was extended due to the GHSGWT and only seniors were in class.  We began class with a Frayer Model of a vocabulary word and then all students present received a chapter 2 study guide.  They were expected to complete through p. 47.  I was able to find some juniors during 4th period.  If you did not get yours then you will get it during class on Friday.

3rd period did the same as above and watched 2 videos from www.learner.org on Endorphins and Placebos.

All students must complete 1 online quiz from Chapter 2 by October 5.

September 28, 2010

Today students were able to review for 10-15 minutes prior to the Module 25-26 unit test on Personality.  The test has 30 multiple choice questions and 1 short answer.

After the test students took the pre-test for the 2nd 6 weeks.  This will help determine how to plan instruction.

Students are reminded that their personality assessment for this unit is due on 9/30.

September 27, 2010

Today all students present had the opportunity to finish their Think-Tac-Toe on the Constitution.  This is for a major grade.

Students need to finish the Chapter 3 review sheet for Wednesday.  We will review all of unit 1 on Wednesday and take the Unit 1 test on Friday, October 1.

We also will have a book check.  Either bring me your book or email me/write down the Accession bar code number so that I know you have the correct book.

September 27, 2010

Today we reviewed the neuron and neural transmission. 

We also took the 2nd 6 weeks pre-assessment.

We will be doing a book check in class on Wednesday.  If you will be testing or not present, please email me or bring me your Accession bar code number or bring your book to me so that I can check you off.

Please bring the toilet flushing activitiy with you on Wednesday.  All juniors will be testing and seniors will meet me in the Media Center.

Today we concluded our study of Personality Theories.  We discussed Trait and Social-Cognitive Theory.

The final assessment will be a personality analysis using all 4 major theories.  See attached document.  It is due by 9/30.

Every student got a review sheet for  Module 25 and 26.  It is due on 9/28.Download Module 26

ALL STUDENTS MUST BRING THEIR BOOKS ON 9/28 FOR A BOOK CHECK.  BRING THEM EVERY DAY!

September 16, 2010

Many students were missing or late today due to GHSGT testing for the Social Studies portion.  Students that were present worked on their Constitution Think-Tac-Toe activity.  We will have 1 more in class period to work on it on Monday, September 27.

Students received a chapter 3 review sheet to complete over the break reviewing the Constitution.

Today we acted out neurons sending impulses and how it works and how it can go wrong.

We got through about 14 slides of the PowerPoint on Neural Impulses that was linked last post.

Students received an activity relating neurons to a toilet flushing that is due upon return from the break.

Chapter 2 vocabulary was collected.
